Band 5 Nurse Recruitment - FAQS

If you have already applied to a rolling advert can you still apply using the new system to cover other trusts you have not yet applied to but are considering?

Yes, you can still apply, as this new system will cover all trusts. It will be your decision to maintain in the current process or go through this new system.

How long will this process take?

Please see the recruitment process for stages and timelines.

Does this cover community nursing posts?

Yes, this will cover all Adult nursing posts across the Trusts that would have been previously open to newly qualified nurses.

What happens if I fail to submit my preferences?

This is an essential part of the process. If you fail to submit your preferences by the closing date for submission it will be assumed you are no longer interested in being considered for an appointment and your application will not be processed further.

How will you know my job preferences?

Following submission of your standard application form, and no later than 8th April 2021, you will be sent a link to a survey asking you to provide your preferences about the post you would most like to work in.

It is really important that you carefully consider this information and only submit interest in areas you would genuinely like to work in.  The preference information you provide will be fed into a data analysis tool that, based on available posts, will match you to the post which most closely aligns with your preferences.

If I accept a post but change my mind is this allowed?

Posts are offered based on your preferences, therefore, based on available posts we will aim to align you to a post, which best matches your preferences. It is therefore important that you carefully consider the preference information and only select preferences where you would genuinely accept posts, and reflect where you want to work.

If you chose to decline a post to allow you to explore alternatives during the process you may be limiting the options available to you as we cannot confirm that the original post offered will still be there if you later change your mind.

If I say I don’t want to interview but circumstances change and I would not be required to interview for this post, will I be contacted?

In posts that are oversubscribed an interview will be held to ensure the process is fair for all applicants.

How will the assessment be conducted?

You will have a formal meeting with lead nurses who will ask you a number of structured questions. Your answers will be scored and the scores will be used to rank order you and the other candidates who have also competed for the post.

If I am unsuccessful after the interview for the post in my preferred service area, what are my next steps?

If you are not successful at securing your preferred job during the selection process you will get feedback from your interview by the lead nurse and we will work with the recruitment team at BSO to align you to a job in a speciality of your choice.

You will be advised by the Nursing Lead that you have been successful and verbally offered the post.

You will receive your conditional offer in accordance with the timeline.

Could I possibly have to interview more than once?

This is possible if for example you were unsuccessful in the post of your first choice and your second choice also had more interest than posts available.

Will there be a formal interview process?

In most instances no, we are aiming to align you to the post you would most like to work in through a professional discussion which will be a 1:1 meeting with a Nursing Workforce Lead. If having taken account of your preferences, there are more candidates interested in a particular post than we have posts available then you may be required to compete for a particular post.

If I chose a service area as my preferred way to go through this process, will I be sent to all trusts with these vacancies?

No, we will use the preference information you have provided to align you to your highest ranked Trust who has a post that best matches your preferred service area. So for example, if you wanted to work in Emergency Medicine and your first preference Trust does not have a post in Emergency Medicine but your second preference Trust does then your details will be directed to your second preference Trust as they have a post in your preferred area of practice which you have advised is the most important aspect for you.
