Frances Robinson
Personal Secretary @ Northern Health & Social Care Trust
Frances is the Personal Secretary to the Assistant Director who covers Recruitment Services, Redeployments, Terms and Conditions of employment, Health and Well-being, Absence Management and all Medical HR aspects of Human Resources.
Hi Frances, Can you tell us how about your job and what you do from day to day
My role requires me to support the AD of HR Services in all aspects of her role. I am the main point of contact for my AD and her areas of responsibility and am required to action or ensure queries are followed up in a variety of teams. I prepare files for meetings as well as flag up actions following them. I also arrange meetings that my AD chairs and prepare agendas and papers for these.
What experience/education is required in order to preform this role?
RSA Stage 2 typing is essential in my role as I am required to type to dictation. Also being able to minute meetings is important. Multitasking, working on my own initiative and maintaining a professional image on behalf of my AD is crutial.
What is the biggest challenge in your role?
My AD covers a large number of areas within HR and the workload can be frantic at times so deadlines can be tight to meet but we prioritise and get through them though it can be stressful. I use a b/f system to ensure all deadlines are met.
What advice would you give to others looking for a job in your field?
As challenging as the job can be it is satisfying when you get to the end and see what has been achieved. Also never expect to be caught up….there is always something else needing done!
What do you like best about your role and working in HSC?
I like being someone’s right hand woman and lightening their workload. It is a nice feeling to know you are helpful to someone. I find working in the health service provides a good work life balance and we are all like one big family who keep each other right.
