Northern Health & Social Care Trust


The Northern Health and Social Care Trust is responsible for the delivery of safe and effective health and social care services to a population of approximately 470,000. The Trust has an annual income of £782 million and employs 11,900 staff across a full range of medical, health and social care disciplines.

The Trust covers a geographical area of 1,733 square miles spanning the four council areas of Antrim and Newtownabbey District, Causeway Coast and Glens District, Mid and East Antrim District and Mid Ulster District. The Trust also provides services to Rathlin, the only inhabited island off the coast of Northern Ireland.

Acute services are provided at both Antrim Area and Causeway Area Hospitals with wider community-based services provided across approximately 300 facilities including day centres, health centres and residential homes. Outpatient services are provided from the following hospital sites: Antrim, Causeway, Whiteabbey, Mid-Ulster, Braid Valley and Moyle. This in addition to a range of community settings such as Ballymena Health and Care Centre.

The Trust also has a 115 bed psychiatric hospital located in Antrim that provides a range of inpatient mental health and addiction services. A further 20 acute mental health inpatient beds are also located within the Ross Thompson Unit in Causeway Hospital.

The Trust headquarters are based at Bretten Hall, Antrim Area Hospital, Antrim.
