The Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service (NIBTS) is responsible for the collection, testing and distribution of over 55,000 blood donations each year. It exists to fully supply the needs of all hospitals and clinical units in the province with safe and effective blood and blood products. The discharge of this function includes a commitment to the care and welfare of our voluntary donors. Our values focus on Safety, Quality, Respect, Working Together, Integrity and Caring.
NIBTS operates from its headquarters on the Belfast City Hospital. Additionally, NIBTS has a satellite blood collection team based in the Tyrone and Fermanagh Hospital in Omagh. There is also a donation facility in College Street, Belfast and a purpose-built BloodMobile Unit that supports the collection of blood across Northern Ireland. A total of almost 800 donation sessions are held each year.
